One year ago I said ‘I do’ to the most incredible person in my life. Over the past twelve months I have come up with hundreds of things that I love about my best friend, but here are ten that make my man truly unique.
We will talk about taking a trip, book it at coffee and leave less than ten hours later. I’ll be on Priceline, you’ll be on the phone with American Express and before the end of our first cup, we’re booked. We never know where we’re going next, but you’re always ready for an adventure. Whether it’s Greece, Costa Rica, or just a weekend in Charleston we can be packed and ready in no time. You match my gypsy spirit.
Sharing is caring.
We want to do everything together. I can’t run as far as you (mostly because you can run a half marathon without even trying), but I want to bike next to you on the trail. You know nothing about social media but you want to learn about what I’m doing on the blog and be a part of the decisions. When one of us leaves town the other isn’t quite sure what to do. While I was in New York, you were at brunch with my mother. You are literally my other half and there is no one I rather be with day in and day out.
As random and unpredictable as you can be, I can always count on Chipotle to make you happy. There’s never so bad of a day that a burrito can’t fix it temporarily. It may have taken about five trips for you to realize I have your order memorized and we don’t need to be on the phone together in line, but when your day has you down, I’ve got you babe. Hot sauce and all.
There are certain things that we don’t do as a family, and we’re always on the same page about ‘the list.’ We started it in the first few months of our relationship when we would make decisions about plans. Ron would look at me, wait for my reaction and then so okay, good I didn’t want to do it either. Once you fell asleep in Cirque de Soleil I knew there was no hope for performances or musicals, and once you realized my extreme mysophobia, there was no chance of a buffet. And we keep adding as we go.
Late night Friends.
I probably have your sisters to thank for this, but there’s nothing better than lying on our couch and watching a few episodes of Friends before bed. You can out-do me on the quotes, but I’m getting there. After a long day Smelly Cat and Yemen are just what we need. So I apologize for my constant Snapchat clips – we’re clearing our heads.
Non stop flights.
You have an amazing love for your four siblings. Justus, Katrina, Jessica and Nick – there is not a thing your brother would not do for you. From flying across the country to halfway around the world, he’s got your back no matter what. I really did win the in-law jackpot with all of you. I love you so much.
Happy wife, happy life.
You used to hear this phrase and think it was stupid, but now you say it multiple times a week. If something is important to me, it’s important to you, even if you don’t understand it. I never doubt that I come first in your life and you would do anything if it meant me being happy.
That back spin.
I think I found the only man from California who’s two favorite genres of music are country, and 90’s hip hop. I thought he was lying on our first date until he literally sang Luke Bryan and Easy – E back to back in the car. And I love both right there with you.
You set the alarm early so we have time together in the morning for our devotional. You never questioned us becoming members at Grace, because it’s where I started my life story, and you wanted to be a part of that. You pray for us ceaselessly and unselfishly. Continuing to support our journey with the Lord, and being the spiritual leader for our family has meant so much to me. I love growing in our faith together.
I catch you doing it all the time. It’s how we met and how you speak to me without words. You look at me like I’m the only person on Earth – like God intended my husband to look at me. You’re my human, and I have cherished every day of this one year. I can’t wait for the rest of our lives together.
Happy anniversary, love.
