When it’s the newest, latest and greatest I tend to volunteer first out of curiosity, so here we go – microblading.
Allure said it best, “Eyebrow grooming in 2016 pretty much spans the entire body-modification spectrum.” Personally, if I could steal the brows off of Cara Delevingne I would. Every day I pencil my eyebrows to make them darker, thicker, you name it. They’re not bad eyebrows just not ideal for the times.
Enter my friend showing me a magazine article about microblading. I immediately started talking to Advanced Cosmetic Surgery to see if they would start doing the procedure. About a month later here we go…
Microblading is an alternative to tattooing, lasting from 1 to 3 years. Ashley started by penciling my eyebrows until we got them to the shape and thickness we were looking for. This took about an hour. In Ashley’s words, “You can totally tweak out on eyebrows all day.” Making sure they’re even, have the right arch, until you’re comfortable can take a while. Part of my actual brow had to be plucked to get a higher arch. We also chose the ink color together. It can be mixed just like hair color to achieve a natural look. I like mine dark, and she said that the color would fade 40% within the first week. Knowing that I went with dark brown and a drop of blonde mixed in. Then she numbed my brows with a topical treatment for about thirty minutes. After that, the blading begins.
The tool that is used looks like a smaller exacto knife. She made tiny cuts along the outside first, then the inside, then filled in the cuts with the ink. One pass along one brow takes about two minutes, and it takes three passes on each brow. The sound is the worst part, you can hear the scrapes being made. The feeling is like a paper cut. Not horrible, but not a spa treatment either. The result is amazing, even after the week of fading. I have included my before and after photos below.
Loving not having to pencil my brows!
A huge thank you to Advanced Cosmetic Surgery.
