When my friend Sarah decided to quit her job and then had three weeks off, we flew to Mexico. It only took two glasses of rosé, an American Express travel concierge, two laptops and two iPhones, but we got it done over an extra long lunch.
We were planning on Cabo, but when the hotel we had our eyes set on sold out, Riveria Maya it was.
We landed on the VICEROY, a smaller boutique hotel with nineteen international locations – all fabulous.
This location in Mexico only has forty rooms and the staff is one of the most attentive I have ever experienced. The ceviche was an every day meal – so fresh and the flavors were incredible. They also had an extensive wine list and you can get any drink you want in a coconut. Winning.
We were upgraded to a luxury suite that had the bathroom of my dreams. I love being in tropical locations and having an outdoor shower. The soaking tub was huge and we had a private plunge pool off of the bedroom area.
We didn’t wander far from the hotel, there aren’t similar spots close by. Once you walk off the property there’s tons of people trying to sell you trips and excursions. But staying at the hotel and never leaving was perfectly fine for us – great food, a spa, and the most incredible views of the Riviera Maya.

If you are headed this way, you will fly into Cancun (two hours from ATL) then arrange a shuttle with your hotel. Word to the wise: don’t go during college spring break. I was waiting on a bunch of Ole Miss frat stars to completely lose their marbles on the plane ride back.
Cheers to my friend Sarah as she starts her new fabulous job next week! Love you so much!!
